Why Choose Us

We are part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which operates the second-largest private school system in the world—with more than 900 schools, from preschool through university, in North America alone. Our students benefit from the church’s deep experience in education, both locally and nationally.

Here are a few of the reasons our parents have chosen to enroll their children here.

We are focused on...

Following Christ

At Feather River Adventist School, the most important thing we do is help students grow in their love for Jesus. While that kind of growth isn’t something we can easily measure or chart, we see it every day—in the way our students care for others, pray together, and make choices that reflect their faith.

As Protestant Christians, we keep Christ at the center of everything we do—not just during Bible class, but throughout the entire school experience.

  • We look to the Bible as our inerrant guide for what we believe and how we live.

  • Building Christian character is woven into every part of school life, from weekly chapels to daily classroom interactions.

  • Our Bible classes focus on helping each student develop a personal relationship with God.

  • We put our faith into action through service projects that reach our local neighborhood and community.

  • Our teachers see their role as both educators and Christian mentors—and parents often share how much they value the warmth and example of our staff.

Luke 2:52 tells us, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Following His example, our students memorize Bible verses each week and learn to apply those truths in every area of their lives.

Learning for the real world

Accreditation

You can be confident in the quality of your child's education and their readiness for the next academic level.

As part of the Seventh-day Adventist school system, we complete a rigorous accreditation process.  Based on the review of educators from other private schools, we are awarded accreditation for our academic program through:

  • National Council for Private School Accreditation, and
  • North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists, Office of Education.

Life Skills

In addition to the core curriculum, our school teaches a variety of life skills.

Gardening –– Our gardening program not only gives students the chance to practice various math skills, but also teaches them the basic of growing and caring for a vegetable garden.  Our amazing community helped us build a greenhouse so we can use our garden space year-round.

Cooking –– With a full kitchen on-site, our students learn the basics of cooking, and have a chance to cook using the food they also plant and grow.

Social-emotional learning –– As Christians we understand the importance of teaching students "...do to others what you would have them do to you." (Matthew 7:12)  To help students live out Christ's wisdom, we work with them on thinking about how their actions impact those around them and how to watch out for the emotional health of their peers.  While society has come to call this social-emotional intelligence, we see this as following Christ's example and instruction.

Advantages of multi-grade classrooms

Although multi-grade classrooms have become less common in America, they offer students many advantages.

Individualized instruction –– Your student can benefit from working at their own academic level regardless of age.  If they are an advanced learner in a subject they can be grouped with others at that level, regardless of their grade level.  And the same can happen if they need more time in another subject.  This prevents boredom in advanced learners and reduces frustration for those needing more time.  Students can be grouped in different learning levels in different subjects.

Enhanced peer learning –– Younger students can learn from older mentors while older students develop leadership skills through coaching and helping their younger classmates.

Improved social development -- Cross-age interactions build stronger communication skills, empathy, and emotional maturity across different developmental stages.

Flexible curriculum integration -- Teachers can create thematic projects spanning multiple grade levels, enabling deeper topic exploration and meaningful cross-subject connections.

Reduced academic pressure -- Focus shifts from grade-level competition to individual growth, improving self-esteem and fostering a more positive relationship with learning.

Teacher looping -- Because your student's teacher will have them as a student for more than one year, they will have a deeper understanding of your child's learning style and be better able to help them learn in an engaging and motivating way.

Developing character

Guests who come to our events or visit our campus are impressed with how our students behave to each other, their teachers and others.  We aim to teach our students and demonstrate through our examples the importance of God's instruction to us, specifically in these four areas:

Respect –– "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves." (Philippians 2:3)  Come visit our campus to see how our students treat each other, their teachers and others with respect.

Kindness ––"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:32)  We believe that true kindness (as well as respect) is the results of realizing that we are all God's creation and loved children of His. Because of our small classroom sizes, our teachers can interact personally with your child, and in partnership with you, help them practice kindness.

Responsibility –– Our students have plenty of opportunities to contribute to our wider community by taking on responsibility.  For example, the upper grade students help with planninng, setting up and leading in our annual Fall Festival and other school events. We believe in helping each child learn to take responsibility for themselves and the consequences of their actions.

Leadership –– "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity."  (1 Timothy 4;12) Our students have the opportunity to develop leadership skills through our participation in local churches where they provide all parts of a church service. In addition, older students help the "littles" during field trips, as reading buddies, and coaching on school topics they have already mastered.

We are honored to partner with our students' parents, in helping students develop strong Christian character.

I like the garden because we all get to go outside with everyone and we take pride in what we grow. We get to share the veggies with other families. Also, Farmer Brad is so very encouraging and helpful.

I love the positive influences my child receives from older students and staff.

I think the garden is nice because it is muddy and I find interesting bugs. I also like the flowers we grow in the garden.
